Hey Fellow Freelancer,
If you’ve visited us before, you might notice that we’ve made some changes around here.
For starters, we’ve changed our name. ‘Translator at Work’ is now ‘Freelancer at Work’!
To explain why we decided to do this we need to take a trip down memory lane…
I was travelling around the world and freelancing as a translator, enjoying my life as a (then not yet hype) 'digital nomad'.
It was all great, but I got tired of explaining to people what I do for a living every time I was out working from public spaces.
I get it. Seeing a person franticly type away on their laptop, everyday, while sitting in a coffee shop or at the beach is a bit… unusual.
So I came up with the idea of telling the people around me what I do by turning my laptop into a personal billboard: I created a laptop decal that said 'Translator At Work'. People started genuinely asking about my services, and I started connecting with other professionals also working from cafes and other coworking spots. Pretty neat, right?
I uploaded a picture to a Facebook group, my colleagues started raving about it and asked where they could find one – BOOM, ‘Translator at Work’ was born.
We realized that easy ‘offline’ marketing isn’t just for translators or interpreters. Duh on us! In this loud, digital world, turning laptops into billboards can help every freelancer.
What does this mean for you?
